Description

Go beyond the original Shondaland series on Netflix, Queen Charlotte, with this lushly romantic Bridgerton prequel novel written by New York Times bestselling authors Julia Quinn and Shonda Rhimes as the marriage of Queen Charlotte and King George of England leads to an unexpected love story and a union that transforms society.

In 1761, on a sunny day in September, a King and Queen met for the very first time. They were married within hours.

Born a German Princess, Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz was beautiful, headstrong, and fiercely intelligent… not precisely the attributes the British Court had been seeking in a spouse for the young King George III. But her fire and independence were exactly what she, and her King, needed.

Because George has secrets… secrets with the potential to shake the very foundations of the monarchy.

Thrust into her new role, Charlotte must navigate the intricate politics of the court—with the newly-titled Lady Danbury at her side—all the while guarding her heart, because she is falling in love with the King…even as he pushes her away. Now, Charlotte must learn to rule, and to understand that she has been given the power to remake society, fulfilling her destiny as Queen. But she also has to fight for the love growing between her and George as people first, royals second. As she says to him: “Fight with me! Fight for me!”

As an individual who often struggles with watching a TV show adaptation after reading the book; I watched the show and then read the book and Gah. The show was as good as the book. The exact same scene I cried watching was so similarly expressed in the book and I cried too. This book is an emotional adventure, very engaging and enthralling. I am sad it finished

Queen Charlotte is a prequel written for the Bridgerton series by Julia Quinn and is written by Julia Quinn and Shonda Rhimes. The television series based on Ms. Quinn’s book series is delightfully diverse, despite the fact that the time period in London would not have been so. Additionally, if there had been any minority races residing in the city, they would not have been members of the “ton.” I believe the writing of this sequel gives the author and screenwriter a way to explain this discrepancy. I listened to this story by audiobook. The narrator was wonderful and kept me engaged throughout the story. It was a truly wonderful story of the marriage of Queen Charlotte and King George III, who was often referred to as “the mad king.” As such, it addresses King George’s mental illness, his struggles with attempted treatment, the impact on the couples relationship, and the impact on the Queen. The story also focuses a great deal on the strengths of women and their ability to effect lasting change in both subtle, unrecognized ways and by more overt actions. I strongly recommend this audiobook for all fans of regency romance, the Bridgerton television series, and romantic comedy. This story did not have many comedy elements due to the subject matter, but there were a few. Try this one out for yourself.

The book closely mimics the series yet with more details that make the series even more meaningful. Some say it’s exactly like the series but I assure you there are some specifics that give context to certain parts of the series. It’s a love story like no other. It is well written and an extraordinary companion to the series.

A beautiful story that brilliantly navigates mental illness, race relations and how everyone is deserving of devout love. Queen Charlotte is quite an inspiring character indeed. Very similar to the show in dialogue, but when it is so well written I have no complaints. True talents Julia and Shonda are. Knowing how closely they worked together to create this story makes it all that much more special. Absolutely devastated by this conclusion, but the journey makes it all worth it.

Sure it is very similar to the series but there are things that didn’t make the series and it’s such a beautiful story to dive into and get to see what the characters are thinking

It was a word for word screenplay of the show. I am disappointed, I was hoping for smaller cuter moments.
