Description

The first book in Sarah J. Maas's #1 bestselling Crescent City series.

Bryce Quinlan had the perfect life-working hard all day and partying all night-until a demon murdered her closest friends, leaving her bereft, wounded, and alone. When the accused is behind bars but the crimes start up again, Bryce finds herself at the heart of the investigation. She'll do whatever it takes to avenge their deaths.

Hunt Athalar is a notorious Fallen angel, now enslaved to the Archangels he once attempted to overthrow. His brutal skills and incredible strength have been set to one purpose-to assassinate his boss's enemies, no questions asked. But with a demon wreaking havoc in the city, he's offered an irresistible deal: help Bryce find the murderer, and his freedom will be within reach.

As Bryce and Hunt dig deep into Crescent City's underbelly, they discover a dark power that threatens everything and everyone they hold dear, and they find, in each other, a blazing passion-one that could set them both free, if they'd only let it.

With unforgettable characters, sizzling romance, and page-turning suspense, this richly inventive new fantasy series by #1 bestselling author Sarah J. Maas delves into the heartache of loss, the price of freedom-and the power of love.

Reviews

  • My word it’s a slow journey…

If you want to finish, just know it takes until around chapter 87 to get going… commit or you might DNF it! I had too, but overall, she built a complex, interesting world so I’m interested to give the second one a shot!
  • Loved it!

Purchased the book months ago and took me months just to get through the first few chapters. The lay of the land in the beginning was thick but omggggg as soon as I got through it I couldn’t put it down! I was hooked! I laughed, I giggled and I cried! What took me months to begin took me a few days to finish! Can’t wait to read the next one!

This is by far my favorite book from Sarah J. Maas. Beautiful world and character building— the first time I’ve cried reading a fantasy novel. Cannot wait to read the second book.
  • Good but not as good as her other book. Cried so much!!!

Loved the book but cried so much. It was very different from her other books but was still good. I don’t really like who she ends up with and would definitely prefer that Conner and her ended up together somehow but was still a good read.

It’s so good and I was so entranced by this book that I didn’t even realized I had been walking on the stair climber for 35 minutes until my sister called me and interrupted my reading.
  • Crescent City

One of my favorites by far. The mystery and the twists and turns. You think you have it figured out and then it slams you with another twist. So so good!
  • Best Trilogy I’ve Read

    By Sokasico
Took a minute to catch and understand the character set-up but couldn’t put it down once it got going! This author never disappoints!
  • Fabulous but slow

Of course Sarah J Maas does not disappoint however, much like the Throne of Glass novels… it take a a bit of time to get to the good stuff. Nonetheless, the character building is flawless and worth the wait.
