I learn the difference between a machine gun and an assault rifle, and a bulletproof vest and a bullet-resistant vest. You know, useful stuff like that.
I see death; I see bravery.
And I discover that vulnerability and trust are more valuable than any currency, stock, or portfolio. I find an unlikely family that trusts and loves each other—a loud, wild, crazy, inappropriate family that drags me into their circle against my will and shows me what acceptance really feels like.
I find love.
The real question is surviving long enough to enjoy it, and being brave enough to let myself open up to it.
