“[A] word-of-mouth smash hit.” The New York Times

“A treasure.” —Hoda Kotb

One spring morning, a stranger named Theo arrives in the small Southern city of Golden. He doesn’t explain much about where he came from or why he’s there—but when he visits the local coffeehouse, where pencil portraits of the people of Golden hang on the walls, he begins purchasing them, one at a time, and giving each portrait to the person depicted. In exchange, he asks only for the person’s story. And so portrait by portrait, person by person, secrets are revealed, regrets are shared, and ordinary lives are profoundly altered.

A story of giving and receiving, of seeing and being seen, Theo of Golden is an unforgettable novel about the power of generosity, the importance of connection, and the quiet miracles that happen when we choose kindness and wonder.

Best book I have ever read. The words articulated every scene, every person, and so much emotion that the reader is submerged into its creativity and thoughtfulness. So many lesson to learn and remember. So very moving.

Levi’s novel is a beautiful and inviting masterpiece that takes us on a journey to meet a very special man, Theo. Levi’s writing is sparkled with whimsy and moments of absolute splendor. It’s hard for me to imagine that this was his first novel. Although the story felt at points a bit too saturated with “Golden,” unadulterated moments, the story coalesces in an absolute crescendo at the end of the novel that makes the entire experience unarguably and absolutely worth it.

Rarely does a book affect your daily thoughts or actions. This one does. As you start thinking about emulating Theo (as he emulates HE, who IS perfect), you find out that Theo has learned to find joy and pain can live together and that meekness is a strength, not a weakness. If you read one book only, choose Theo of Golden. It just may change you….in a good way.

enjoyed it for the most part! is a hallmark movie in a book- so expect it to be cheesy at times. it went in a different direction than what i was expecting, but is a read that makes you think throughout!
