Dragon's Time

Something is lacking in this book. I think it is that the society on Pern is not as well developed, the characters not so well developed. I kept thinking I was missing something. Went back repeatedly to review. I was not missing or forgetting anything that I had read. The usual deep descriptions and character motivations were simply missing. I think Todd needs some editors who are not too familiar with the plot, and have not seen the rewrites as they were under development. The book reads as though someone has done some heavy pruning and lost important bits.

One of the worst written books from this series I have read. Was disappointed. Very disjointed storyline, weak story-telling, and moderate to poor descriptive narration of what occurs in Pern. Almost like authors just wanted to put a book out there to make some more money!

It was impossible to put down. I love all the mysteries in the book because of their future selves time traveling. Plus all the problems they face and their unique solutions. Cannot wait for the next book.

I have followed the PERN series since the early 90's and have enjoyed the series tremendously. So when I discovered that her son Todd McCaffrey continued on her legacy I was quite happy to learn that the series would continue. I have to wonder however, if Todd even bothered to sit down and do some actual research in writing this catastrophe or did he just leave a soap opera show on and used that to dictate his storyline. I had to read and re-read the chapters so many times just to figure out what was going on because it was way too confusing. Here are some points that bothered me to no end with this series: **SPOILER ALERT for those of you who have not read the book as of yet. ** - It seemed that Todd's focus for this book was to emphasize on how special and how much Fiona can share her love to everyone she meets. - There was more emphasis on the unconventional love between the characters than solving the life-threatening crisis of finding enough dragons to fight thread. - Todd seems to want to appeal to a different set of readers because this book feels like an episode of Dawson's Creek. If Dawson's Creek had time travel and dragons. - Whatever Ms. McCaffrey has told us about going between times and being in two places at the same time has been a lie. Apparently it is as easy as traveling from one room to the next and the only side effects are being tired, cranky, and some "muzzy-headedness". - No, dragons dont in fact go between the first opportunity they get when they loose their connection with their riders. They sit around and twiddle their proverbial thumbs (if they had thumbs). - Space travel is easy, no safety equiptment needed. No kidding! Apparently all the precautions taken during the space exercises in All the Weyrs of Pern were a waste of time. My recommendation to all true fans of Pern and of Ms McCaffrey's work is to skip this one. If you must read it, save your hard earned money and borrow it from the library.

Very good book, couldn't put it down. I literally read it in 2 days. Kept me guessing about what was next and how it would end. I hope that Todd and Anne keep this storyline active, I really enjoy these characters.
