Never get involved with your patients.
Police department psychologist Kira McGinnis lives by that rule. She has enough on her plate – caring for her five-year-old daughter and her troubled teen-age brother – without adding more complications. But now difficult, charming Detective Jake Donnelly is one of her patients. And he’s using his tough-guy routine to hide his feelings.
Jake says he’ll do anything to get back to active duty – but he’s not trying very hard. He doesn’t trust shrinks – with good reason – and he doesn’t want Kira to know what he’s thinking or feeling.
He’d like to get to know Kira better – outside the job. But that’s impossible, since he is her job.
