Description

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • In the eighth book in The Iron Druid Chronicles, two-thousand-year-old Druid Atticus O’Sullivan faces the clan of vampires who have been bent on destroying him—including Leif, his former best friend turned enemy.

When a Druid lives as long as Atticus does, he’s bound to run afoul of a few vampires—make that legions of them. Even his former friend and legal counsel turned out to be a bloodsucking backstabber. Now the toothy troublemakers—led by power-mad pain-in-the-neck Theophilus—are no longer content to live undead and let live. Atticus needs to make a point—and drive it into a vampire’s heart.

As always, Atticus wouldn’t mind a little backup. But his allies have problems of their own. Ornery archdruid Owen Kennedy is having a wee bit of troll trouble: Turns out when you stiff a troll, it’s not water under the bridge. Meanwhile, Granuaile is desperate to free herself of the Norse god Loki’s mark and elude his powers of divination—a quest that will bring her face-to-face with several Slavic nightmares.

As Atticus globe-trots to stop his vampire nemesis, the journey leads to Rome. What better place to end an immortal than the Eternal City? But poetic justice won’t come without a price: In order to defeat Theophilus, Atticus may have to lose an old friend.

  • Vampires beware. Atticus is coming

Staked is book 8 in The Iron Druid Series by Kevin Hearne. It picks up where The novella A Prelude to War left off. The novella fills in the gaps on how Atticus finds out how to hit Theophilus and the rest of the vampires where it hurts. We get this story from three druids point of view. Atticus, Granuaile and archdruid Owen. Its main storyline covers the continuing war with the vampires. In previous books where we got the point of view from Granuaile I didn't care for how it was written but this book was different. Kevin Hearne has done a great job getting into a different head space for each character. We lose some more major players in this story from both sides. We also gain some new characters and are left with a hopeful outlook on the future of druidism. I can't wait for the next book!

I enjoy Kevin Hearne one for his vocabulary, two for his rad storytelling skills. Being said Staked followed the plot in the usual manner that Atticus employs to get his jobs done. Chaos, albeit with added organization thank you to Granuaille and Owen. It was an enjoyable though unfortunately quick read. I am always left wanting more adventure or just regular everyday existence for these characters! I am obviously not a great review writer but I know a good book, or series, as is the case here. Read them, they are clever, funny- laugh out loud funny! Thoroughly fun a great trip!

If you enjoyed the other books in the series, this one won't disappoint. If it's not your cup of tea, that's too bad for you really. A fine read if you just let it happen.
