Great book. Very appropriate to current events. Very entertaining.

This is one if my favorite books. It combines hard core science fiction with classic Greek story telling. Man against man, nature, and self all at the same time. Kind of reminds me of Hercules- if he was military and used a plasma cannon. 😇
  • Very well written.

More besides military but mostly military. This is the story of a long trek on an actively hostile alien planet. The Trekkers are a contingent of involuntary colonists and what is left of a military group of individuals who have gone beyond burnout and PTSD; these last are the redliners. The redliners have been ordered to guard the civilians in hopes of restoring the soldiers. Of course there are lots of battles, lots of guns, lots of death. The environment is interesting. I can't make a general recommendation because this type of book leaves me feeling tired and sad but, if this is your kind of fiction, this is a very good choice.

I really liked this book. The writing was somewhat coarse thus the lack of five stars. The science was first rate but the jewel was the explanation of the soldiers ethos. All soldiers are human but what sets the best of them apart is the real subject of this book.

This is an excellent read. Flows quickly with decent character development and fairly engaging story.
