Description

The Epic of Gilgamesh is an epic poem from Mesopotamia. It is one of the oldest known literary works. Preserved on 12 clay tablets, the story focuses on Gilgamesh, King of Uruk, and his relationship with companion Enkidu along with their wild adventures and the reaction of the gods to those dangerous excursions. The poem also addresses grief, death, and the quest for eternal life.

The way this version is translated is extremely annoying. Asterisks, brackets, and then more asterisks break up the middle of words. At least a third of the text is within brackets, signifying where the original tablet text is broken. I don't care about what syllables happen to be faded out, Im more interested in the actual story. This can be good if you need to have an accurate letter-to-letter original copy, but it's very difficult to read coherently for anyone who's trying to. Other than that, this is a simple no-nonsense edition. Any extra notes are brief to fill in any missing sections, but there is no commentary. I found that a plus. Also, this is a great price compared to other editions I was looking at.
