Words can’t explain how much this novel has affected me in the most important way. The writer really took her time when she wrote this artwork. Beautiful words, exposes the horrors and reality that slaves lived, struggle of being acknowledged and accepted as a human instead of cash cows. A book that details the drastic lengths and measures black slave women took in order to protect and care for their children, her dignity and her self.

Very good and educating book about the lives of our ancestors and how they fought for their God-given freedom. Harriet Jacobs is one hell of an author

The life of a slave girl named Linda! She was a true fighter & wonderful mother who went to the ends of the earth for her children not to be slaves. Black people have come a mighty long ways, but we still have a ways to go!

Reading this book took me on a journey that often felt as if I were reading a novel. As a forty-eight year old black man, my eyes welled up with tears, as I came to grips with the actual sufferings of my on Great-Grands and the very rich heritage they left me. I am grateful to be a black man who can look back and honor those who endured pure evil for those who would come long after them. I vow to honor those who never tasted freedom while living. YOU ALL ARE MY HEROS...
