Magic Land, Magic Novel

A groundbreaking fantasy novel in the 1970s. Before this book, all (yes, all) fantasy books were very serious like Lord of the Rings. Piers Anthony doesn't get nearly enough credit in the literary world for changing that, largely I feel because of the juvenile perceptions of women in his Xanth books.
It's never struck me as misogyny. Just the opposite. It's the male juvenile AWE of a woman's physical qualities. Juvenile males usually don't learn about women as people until after a few years of looking at them in hungry awe. Xanth fits right in those years.
Which is great for juvenile males, but so unfortunate in a larger sense because the stories and the world of Xanth are top notch. Many women and older readers will likely be turned off by the juvenile pervert aspect before they get the chance to find out how wonderful Xanth is. Sad panda.
Would buy again with an audiobook version.

I think this book is amazing. It’s a great kickoff for the Xanth series. I have no complaints about this book whatsoever, and I 100% recommend reading or listening to this book.

Painfully misogynistic. It appears to be an intentional screws against women. Or per chance an experiment to see how many demeaning concepts or child-man actions can be laid upon the pages of a book.
Starts a little slow with a build up that explodes!!!

I love this book and this series. Tons of fun and the characters are wonderful. The story is compelling and the land imaginative and magical. Read it four times and will read it many more. Recommend to all mature, fantasy loving audiences.

I started reading this series when I was 10, and now at 25 I have yet to find a series as vibrant. The stories are deeply compelling and the characters are intricate, yet the whole experience is refreshing. You won't be sorry with this buy.
