I’ll keep the spoilers to a minimum. I really don’t know what to say about this book. It took everything I loved from the first two and did nothing of the sort. When a book is released, especially a trilogy, there are promises made by the author to the reader that are sort of unspoken. Such as who the main character will be, what the themes of the story will be, the setting, etc. etc. Almost every single promise is broken in this book. All the characters I loved were either pushed far into the background or not at all in it. Do you truly think we care this much about Berenice???? I cannot believe we got maybe one or two POVs of Sancia and that was it. I literally had no idea what her feelings were throughout this book. The story was ridiculous, boring and just completely out of nowhere. I don’t understand why the author decided half of the things they did for the story, especially the setting of this book. I cannot wrap my head around how you can have a time gap that far and expect us to care what is going on. We don’t even get to see certain events which would have been wonderful, but no we just get to hear about them in a two sentence conversation. It broke every promise that the author gave us in the first two books and turned the entire series on its head, especially in regards to Sancia and how she was handled this book (did the author forget she is the main character???) I’m usually not very critical of books, I usually find nothing wrong with them, but this book had me hoping for it to end. It was like a completely different book series.
