My family is from Turino. So, everything Italian is precious to me. What an amazing story! Grazie Grazie! The fictional combined with historical prose is exemplary... If you love all things Italian and an incredible historical account of the tragedy that unfolded in Rome... Indulge- you won’t be sorry. Ciao, Ciao!

A lot of character development. Pages and pages of nothing and then tragedy. The book was ok, not the best historical documentation of the Nazi occupation of Italy.
  • A young adult Novel?

Although the research was undoubtedly strong, the prose were sophomoric and the female character was weak. Spilling a plate of pasta on a Nazi lap earned an eye roll. I stuck with this book for the history that thrilled. The fictional aspect left me dissatisfied.

I am an Abruzzo - born immigrant who did not meet my father till I was 7 yrs old in Chicago. My Dad came to America in 1955, seeking his father who he had never met (he celebrates his 95th Bday next week). Indeed...our story is of family and love and memories. Lisa, this storyline resonated with deep memories. Thank you for being our family historian. Much love.

Absolutely remarkable, well written. A heart wrenching true to life story of love, respect, and the horrors of war.
