I appreciate how the lead female could show the strength one woman can have In this time period accomplishing having a voice for women, yet still receive love and respect. I love her independence and boldness in getting to the truth. Book highly recommended. BP

I thought the plot here was incredibly imaginative and original, but as the other reviewer has said, the emotional/romantic connection between Clara and Adam needed to be more developed for them to believably fall in love. The ending was also a bit abrupt to me; however, I am used to historical romances ending in epilogues, and that maybe be why I was caught off guard and unsatisfied with the ending.
  • A bit insincere

I did enjoy reading this book for the most part, but the one thing it greatly lacks is the feeling of a genuine connection between the two protagonists. Adam and Clara had a whirlwind romance that involved an unmarried physical affair, which is to be expected. But there was so much emphasis on the “physical” part that it made the romance between them feel insincere. It was a bit difficult imagining a genuine love building between them when all they seemed to do was sneak around to satiate their cravings for each other. I would have enjoyed it if there was a bit more of a focus on the romance and emotional connection, rather than just physical intimacies.
