Description

INSTANT #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

In his first and only official autobiography, music icon Elton John reveals the truth about his extraordinary life, from his rollercoaster lifestyle as shown in the film Rocketman, to becoming a living legend.

Christened Reginald Dwight, he was a shy boy with Buddy Holly glasses who grew up in the London suburb of Pinner and dreamed of becoming a pop star. By the age of twenty-three he was performing his first gig in America, facing an astonished audience in his bright yellow dungarees, a star-spangled T-shirt, and boots with wings. Elton John had arrived and the music world would never be the same again.

His life has been full of drama, from the early rejection of his work with song-writing partner Bernie Taupin to spinning out of control as a chart-topping superstar; from half-heartedly trying to drown himself in his LA swimming pool to disco-dancing with Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth; from friendships with John Lennon, Freddie Mercury, and George Michael to setting up his AIDS Foundation to conquering Broadway with Aida, The Lion King, and Billy Elliot the Musical. All the while Elton was hiding a drug addiction that would grip him for over a decade.

In Me, Elton also writes powerfully about getting clean and changing his life, about finding love with David Furnish and becoming a father. In a voice that is warm, humble, and open, this is Elton on his music and his relationships, his passions and his mistakes. This is a story that will stay with you by a living legend.

I enjoyed the look into Elton’s life through his eyes. His pure intelligence shines through in his ability to paint a picture in the readers mind that keeps you coming back for more!

One of the best autobiographies/memoirs I have read - and I’ve read many. Honest, revealing, introspective and entertaining. A worthwhile read from start to finish.

This book seemed to convey a real sense of an incredible life, but not without its challenges that ultimately helped instill a refreshing sense of humility.

What a wonderful, hysterically funny and well written book! Elton is nothing short of honest and outrageous. Loved every page and wish I could shake his hand on being so strong and changing his habits to be healthier. Thank you and love you, Elton.

As a die-hard Elton fan, This is the greatest memoir i’ve ever read. Told in the Rocket Man’s words and perspective, it hits me in the heart with sadness, joy, and music. :’D

I was surprised at the excellent quality of this book. Expected it to be like a lot of books by famous people but Elton put it all out there. Would love to read something like “My Life with Elton” by David to get his perspective. Best book I’ve read in years.

I’ve read many autobiographies, but this one is by far the most real. I’ve never read an autobiography that made me laugh and tear up as much as Elton’s biography. I’m a lifelong fan, my all-time favorite concert was with just him and his piano, and one of my very top dreams in life is to take a piano lesson with Elton. Enjoy the book and become forever inspired to live an extraordinary life!
  • Best celebrity bio ever!

It’s by FAR the best celebrity bio I have ever read…the reason…it’s VERY PERSONAL and VERY CANDID. Virtually all celeb bios have a major problem in that they are forced to talk to some extent about the other people who surrounded them. Most try not to say anything bad about anybody and end up writing deadly dull and predictable stories. I’m assuming he got the go-ahead from the other people he writes about because he is almost as candid about them as he is about himself…hence the stories are very real and personal indeed. I was hesitant to read the bio because I expected it to be a lot like the movie Rocketman, since he produced both around the same time…couldn’t be further from the truth. Me is almost completely different from the film…the latter is more of an art/music piece.

For the record he doesn’t talk about how great he is chapter after chapter. You can tell he put some thought into and after all the book is called Me. So the whole book is gonna be about him.
