Description

After a decade apart, childhood sweethearts reconnect by chance in New York Times bestselling author Christina Lauren’s touching, romantic novel Love and Other Words…how many words will it take for them to figure out where it all went wrong?

The story of the heart can never be unwritten.

Macy Sorensen is settling into an ambitious if emotionally tepid routine: work hard as a new pediatrics resident, plan her wedding to an older, financially secure man, keep her head down and heart tucked away.

But when she runs into Elliot Petropoulos—the first and only love of her life—the careful bubble she’s constructed begins to dissolve. Once upon a time, Elliot was Macy’s entire world—growing from her gangly bookish friend into the man who coaxed her heart open again after the loss of her mother...only to break it on the very night he declared his love for her.

Told in alternating timelines between Then and Now, teenage Elliot and Macy grow from friends to much more—spending weekends and lazy summers together in a house outside of San Francisco devouring books, sharing favorite words, and talking through their growing pains and triumphs. As adults, they have become strangers to one another until their chance reunion. Although their memories are obscured by the agony of what happened that night so many years ago, Elliot will come to understand the truth behind Macy’s decade-long silence, and will have to overcome the past and himself to revive her faith in the possibility of an all-consuming love.

This books is beautiful, fun, sexy and romantic. As a “new” reader, this is my first completed book of 2024 and I’m hooked on romances. Can’t wait to pick up another by Christina Lauren!

If you’re looking for a break from dark romance, fantasy, and or thrillers this read is the ultimate palate cleanser. This book is wonderfully sweet and discusses grief of a loved one amidst an evolving friendship turned romance. Elliot is a perfectly awkward, left-brained individual who weirdly enough offers love and sympathy for our heroine Macy. This story is for those girls who love loyal good guys.

Macy and Elliot’s love story is special and leaves you wanting more. I thought this would be too much like Every Summer After but it’s different in the perfect ways.

The writing was good, although parts moved a bit too fast and could have used a bit more detail. The book goes from past to present from beginning to end, so if you don’t enjoy books that switch tense a lot beware. The characters have their own personalities and the storyline is easy to understand. There are a few x rated scenes, written very tastefully. I was impressed with how the author worded these parts of the book. The ending felt a bit rushed, which left me feeling a little unsatisfied after finishing it. It also talks a lot about death and grief. Overall it was a good read!
