Description

Jax will do anything to save her twin . . . even team up with a teenage alien left behind by the same ship that took her brother.

She agrees to help the alien get back home, and in return, he agrees to sneak her into the alien city to find her sibling.

Too bad it's not that simple.

Jax soon finds that she's drawn to the alien boy with bright green hair and jewel-like scales on his back and he's equally affected by her, the courageous redhead with haunted eyes. But she doesn't know the alien's true motives, and he has no idea that she is much more than she seems.

Worse, the connection forming between them has unknown consequences.

The humans and the aliens are both hiding deadly secrets and the forbidden bond linking the two teens threatens to reveal everything. What started as an uneasy alliance and a seemingly straightforward rescue mission could spark an inter-species war.

The Broken Skies series is a completed series filled with action, adventure, aliens, and romance. Perfect for fans of the Lux series, Under Different Stars, and The Fifth Wave.

★★★★★ "I don't want to give too much away but take an alien/human love story, set it in a post apocalyptic type society, feature a strong but damaged heroine, sprinkle in a compassionate but secretive male lead, add in suspense, drama, shake and you have the wildly entertaining Broken Skies."-Shannon from Book Crushin

Jax and Jace live in a world where the human population has been decimated by humanity's own inhumanity. In the wake of this, an alien race known as the E'rikon have taken over deserted cities. They usually stick to their own settlements, but one day Jax stumbles upon a small group of them in the woods near Bridgelake. In trying to save her, Jace gets captured and an alien gets left behind. Now Jax finds herself drawn to Lir--her only chance to rescue her twin brother. Will her attempts lead to her own death? Or Lir's? Will she discover truths that turn her world upside down? Or will she find answers that bring aliens and humans together? While I found the story interesting, some aspects of Jax's personality grated on me. She seemed too innocent for someone living in her situation with her past experiences. It is hard to explain.

This story is a post apocalyptic adventure. It’s entertaining and unique in the storyline. However, I’m not a big fan of the ending. I’m sure the next book will rectify this ending but will I read the next book? I’m not sure. This one left me feeling like the story was finished.
  • Just stopped at the end

It was a good read but when you get to the end of the book the story doesn’t wrap up it just ends abruptly. I know the idea is for you to buy the next book in the series and it does leave you wanting for more, but it seems like a never ending soap opera. If at least of the few ends were tied up I would have given it more stars.

This is a fun read and I loved the interpersonal relationships the author formed between the main character and her brother and the others. Definitely worth reading forward in the series and discovering this author/series! Everything felt ‘right’.

I was given an ARC (advanced reader copy) of this book in return for an honest review. I was pretty leery of beginning this book. It's not my typical novel and I was pretty hesitant to start it. Sci-fi is not my genre of choice. Aliens, they just don't interest me and honestly kind of give me the heebie jeebies. But darn it, Theresa captured my interest right away and held my attention until I devoured the book in one sitting! The characters are well developed, the story line is original, and holy heck LIR, the alien...heaven help me, there are no words for him. Love him, hate him, have extreme reactions to him - yep. that was me! My emotions/reactions as the story grew and developed were up, down, and sideways...not to mention the cliffhanger. Sheesh, when it ended I needed the next installment right away!!! This book was amazing and you will not regret your purchase. Treat yourself, buy it now!
