Not only did I not like the protagonist, she was all over the place. Like the author had no idea who she was either. Very weird. I’ve tried hard to like Ellison’s books, but won’t read them anymore.
Fantastic!

This book was one that I couldn't put down! It kept me guessing at every turn! The jumping back and forth in time was a little too much for me but I got used to it. I thought this book was a five star book until the end. The ending reminded me of a soap opera. It totally was understandable that Aubrey would fall in love with someone else after 5 years but not that the recipient of that love would be the unknown brother of her husband! The hypocrisy of the judgemental and self righteous attitude that Aubrey suddenly held toward her beloved husband was completely illogical. Everything that happened to Josh was totally out of his control except his own drug use. He was blackmailed into stealing drugs and when he tried to go to the police he was blocked from that too by Allen threatening to kill Aubrey. He was a good guy caught in a bad situation with no way out. Yes I understand he broke his promise to her and she felt that was a deal breaker but to say there was nothing good in him anymore was ridiculous. She said she asked him to leave for a while after he told her the truth because she was afraid she would slit his throat and that was before he disappeared! When Aubrey found out Josh was just as flawed as she was, she no longer loved him or wanted him. That was just wrong and it was even more wrong for her to turn him in after he came back for her. Poor Josh was left in prison with nothing while thinking about the love of his life being married to and sleeping with his brother. And she called him cruel!
It was ok

Predictable. Rather slow moving with a disappointing end.
No One Knows

By Kris Anderson, The Avid Reader
Aubrey Marie Trenton Hamilton divides her life into three sections. Seven years before she met Josh, the seventeen years she knew Josh, and the five years since Josh died. Josh Hamilton and Aubrey met when they were around seven years old. When Aubrey was eight her parents passed away and Aubrey went into foster care (where she grew up too fast). Five years ago Josh and Aubrey were going to friend’s bachelor and bachelorette parties. They were in an accident on the way, but they finally arrive at the hotel where the parties were being held. They parted ways after entering the lobby and that is the last time Aubrey saw Josh. Josh’s body was not found and the investigation focused on Aubrey (of course). Daisy Hamilton, Josh’s mother, never liked Aubrey (because she did not like Aubrey’s mother, Marie). Daisy petitioned the courts to have Josh declared dead after five years (she wants his big life insurance policy which names Aubrey as beneficiary). Daisy likes rubbing salt into Aubrey’s very open wounds (still grieving). Then Aubrey sees a man who walks just like Josh (has other similar mannerisms). He also looks a lot like Josh. His name is Chase Boden. Chase is a reporter from Chicago wanting to write a story on Josh (believes there is more to the story). Chase and Aubrey start looking into Josh’s past. What happened to him five years ago? Read No One Knows to find out.
I found No One Knows by J.T. Ellison to be expected (I wanted surprises and twists). It is a slow-paced novel with a likely "twist" (to me it was no surprise) at the end. The pace of the novel does pick up near the end (thank goodness). No One Knows is told from various viewpoints and goes back and forth in time to tell the story (which makes it hard to get into the novel). I was hoping for a good suspense novel, and it was just okay. I think to enjoy a novel you have to like the main character (at least a little bit), but I did not like Aubrey (nor Daisy). My favorite character was Winston, the Weimaraner. No One Knows contains foul language, sex, drugs, and violence (fair warning). I give No One Knows 3 out of 5 stars.
I received a complimentary copy of No One Knows from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review of the novel.
Great Story and People

This book is like a jigsaw puzzle as pieces of the story are added bit by bit jumping forward and backward in time. The net effect is to keep the reader engrossed and anxious to put together the pieces and determine what happened and why when Aubrey's husband, Josh, mysteriously vanishes. Some of the characters are likeable and some are truly evil. Aubrey, the main character, is hurt in many ways, but has the strength and fortitude to seize life and live. I was ready to not like this book because it started a little too much like a romantic novel, but I came around as it is so much more to read and enjoy.
